Georgie L. MacDonald is a former federal prosecutor specializing in cyber investigations and issues at the intersection of law and digital finance. Georgie was a founding member of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (“NCET”), a unit within the Department of Justice’s Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section focused on prosecuting the criminal misuse of digital assets, where she worked closely with federal law enforcement agencies and financial regulators to shape enforcement priorities and policy surrounding emerging technologies.

While a member of the NCET, Georgie coordinated a national strategy to combat cryptocurrency investment frauds known as pig butchering scams. She led a task force of federal agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Secret Service to undertake investigations into sophisticated fraudsters, money laundering networks, and the infrastructure providers supporting international scam organizations. The United States Secret Service recognized her work on the task force with a Director’s Honor Award in 2023.

Georgie has substantial experience litigating the seizure and forfeiture of digital assets and supported the seizure of over $100 million in cryptocurrency to be returned to victims of financial fraud. She also has deep familiarity with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations. As one of the first federal prosecutors to conduct a cryptocurrency-related trial, Georgie became a national resource for training on presenting blockchain evidence in Court. She has trained over 1,000 law enforcement agents and state and federal prosecutors on legal issues related to cryptocurrency.

Prior to Joining NAXO, Georgie served as the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire where she supervised attorneys prosecuting white collar, cyber, national security, and child exploitation offenses. During her decade as a federal prosecutor, she prosecuted a wide range of criminal violations and regularly tried cases in federal court. Before joining the Department of Justice, Georgie was a civil litigator and law clerk to the Honorable Roger W. Titus of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
